9th NUTRA INDIA SUMMIT Concludes on a Positive Note


Experts urge industry to work together to make a nutritious India


Bangalore, 14th March 2014: The 9th Edition of NUTRA INDIA SUMMIT India’s flagship event for the Nutrition, Nutraceuticals, Functional Foods & Dietary Supplements Industry concluded on a positive note. This year' s theme was “New Sutra for Nutra for emerging global economics” concluded today on a promising note. Prof. M S Swaminathan - Founder Chairman and Chief Mentor, UNESCO Chair in Ecotechnology, M S Swaminathan Research Foundation also known as the father of the green revolution in India who advocates sustainable agriculture, sustainable food security and the preservation of biodiversity, was presented with the NUTRA INDIA SUMMIT lifetime achievement award.

The summit saw participation from 15 countries like USA, Canada, South Africa, UK, Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Japan, China, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan etc.,, featured 70 renowned speakers from across the globe, covering 16 conference sessions addressing topics such as innovations, business growth, collaboration, research, discoveries and marketing. 500 delegates from 107 organisations including the private sector, R&D and Academia participated in the three days Summit. Cumulatively the ' NuFFooDS' - Health & Food Expo and Interactive Poster Session had 80 participants. The exhibition had more than 2000 visitors. The 9th NUTRA INDIA SUMMIT also released a study on the “Nutra sector” prepared by NuFFooDS Spectrum.

Some of the key takeaways from the summit were – that the industry has to work together sharing knowledge and iron out issues related to patents, and lichening for the greater good, the Government must address some of the regulatory issues especially on junk foods, prescribe new guidelines to plug loopholes, increase funding for R&D, companies must communicate properly on nutritious value to consumers and consumer awareness on nutrition have to be risen for example several new as well as fruit extracts, vegetables and plant solves are highly nutritious and beneficial for Indians.”

Speaking on the success of the 9th NUTRA INDIA SUMMIT, Dr. V. Prakash, FRSC, Distinguished Scientist of CSIR – India, Vice President, International Union of Nutritional Science (IUNS), Hon. Director of R&D and Innovation at JSS MVP, Mysore, Chairman, 9th NUTRA INDIA SUMMIT said, ““The objective of the 9th NUTRA INDIA SUMMIT was to provide a platform for the industry to meet and interact with Researchers, Business gurus and Policy makers from the Indian and International Nutraceuticals sector. I' m glad that the participants, delegates and visitors have gained insights on the latest trends, strategies, opportunities and challenges in the Nutraceuticals space. The summit also addressed food safety and regulatory issues to suit todays open market.”

Commenting on the Government' s role, he said, “I' m proud to say that Karnataka State been very supportive of new Industries. It' s these revolutions that have led India on its Growth path. Today, Karnataka State is one of the Leading States in India which has engendered Information Technology & Biotechnology (IT&BT) revolutions to make India a Global IT & BT Hub that is drawing Foreign Investments. It has the excellent Infrastructure and Facilities with right Government Support and Regulatory policies to encourage new Industry to flourish.”

The Awards Function presented prestigious NUTRA Excellence Awards  to outstanding individuals and organisations, exhibitors were awarded for creativity, presentation & display and Five best posters were awarded for concept, practicality and interaction.
